Sites to Behold

Tired of navigating your school district’s bulky Web site? Want to show them the right way to do things?

For this week and next, you have just that chance.

The School-e Awards named 15 finalists today for its contest for the best school district Web site, opening voting to the public after a panel of education and Web experts whittled the semifinal field of 30 sites in half.

The 30 semifinalists were the most-nominated among 1,600 total nominations since January, and were evaluated on design, content, and functionality.

You can grade the 15 finalists on the same criteria—or on any old criteria you want—so long as you have a valid e-mail address. It might also be a good idea to forward this to your own Web master if he or she needs some subtle inspiration.

Voting closes April 16, and winners are announced April 19.

How do the finalists compare to your district’s Web site? Does your district have the resources to measure up in cyberspace? And if they do, what’s more important: looks, content, or navigation?
