If you’ve followed mobile learning much at all recently, you’ve probably noticed the rise in schools allowing students to use their own mobile devices in class.

But you still might be unclear—even after reading our Technology Counts coverage—about all the implications that come with changing a cellphone policy.

If so, you might want to stop by Tuesday’s webinar, “Student Owned Devices at School: Breakthrough Innovation or Major Pitfall?,” hosted by the Consortium for School Networking.

Technology chiefs from Round Rock, Texas, Forsyth County, Ga., and Decatur City, Ala., will be among the panelists at the event (1-2 p.m. Eastern), where they’ll weigh both sides of an increasingly popular but still-divisive issue. Proponents of utilizing student-owned devices say it’s a cost-affective way to achieve a 1-to-1 classroom, while opponents caution such policies raise serious equity, legal, and technical issues.

(STRONG HINT: Attending this webinar should give you the background needed to read yours truly’s upcoming fall Digital Directions story on the issue.)

Anyway, the webinar is free for CoSN members and available for a fee for non-members as part of the organization’s Internet in Education Webinar Series. So if you’d like, check it out.
