Seizing upon the recent East Coast-West Coast theme around here, I’ll be following up Katie Ash’s coverage last week of the Digital Media and Learning Conference in San Francisco with my own reports from the Consortium for School Networking’s annual conference this week in Washington.

Some notes about this year’s event:

• Sunday marked the launch of CoSN’s Certified Education Technology Leader program, with the first-ever candidates for the designation sitting for the proctored, multiple-choice portion of the exam.
• It’s the first time a session will link a CoSN audience with one at the second-annual South by Southwest education conference and one at the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education Conference, both in Austin.
• Both authors of A New Culture of Learning: Cultivating the Imagination for a World of Constant Change are included in the program of opening and closing keynote speakers. (Co-author John Seely Brown also spoke in San Francisco.)
• The Washington Education Technology Policy Summit, a joint venture from CoSN, the International Society for Technology in Education, and the State Educational Technology Directors Association, will follow CoSN’s conference on Thursday.
