Half of K-8 Teachers Using Digital Games

A new survey from the New York City-based Joan Ganz Cooney Center found that half of K-8 teachers are regularly (twice a week or more) using digital games in their classroom lessons. Teachers reported higher levels of student engagement and a greater ability to personalize learning in large classroom settings through digital games.

In this survey, games were defined as any kind of interactive activity (including simulations) that students participate in on a variety of devices such as computers, tablets, and mobile devices. However, some caution that this broad definition of gaming may include "drill-and-kill" trivia-style games that some gaming experts say do not leverage the full potential of educational digital games.
