For those who are looking for resources to help improve efforts to recruit, train, and support new principals: A collection of videos focused on school leadership, featuring district leaders from Denver, New York, and Prince George’s County, Md., was released this week.

The 55 videos were produced by WNET, a New York-based public television network, and funded by the Wallace Foundation, which also supports Education Week‘s coverage of leadership, arts education, and extended and expanded learning time.

Some of the topics covered:

Building a Corps of Well-Qualified Candidates
  • The Principalship is Complex and Evolving
  • Creating Pathways to the Principalship
  • Standards as a Common Language for Training and Practice
  • Developing Assistant Principals
  • Supporting Principals on the Job

  • Supporting New Principals in the Early Years
  • Principal as Instructional Leader
  • Teacher Leaders and Teacher Teams
  • Principal Empowerment

Each video is accompanied by discussion questions, activities, and a list of “additional resources.”

The three districts that are spotlighted in this collection are all part of the Wallace Foundation’s principal pipeline initiative. An evaluation of that initiative‘s first year was released last week. We also spotlighted Chicago’s work on principals last month.
