Life-endangering winter weather is holding a large swath of the United States in its grip, shutting down schools in many communities. Making the decision to close schools for weather can be one of the most thankless parts of a superintendent’s job (someone is always unhappy and second-guessing), but some Midwestern schools chiefs who’ve had to shut down this week have decided to have a little fun.
In the process, they’ve spawned a competition of sorts, as well as a new sub-genre of YouTube video: School closure announcements sung to pop tunes. Your friendly Education Week journos have curated this short list for you, from school leaders in Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, and Illinois.
