We’re more than halfway there.

U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has approved Every Student Succeeds Act plans from 37 states and the District of Columbia. Even if you’ve kept up, though, there may be several key details or trends you don’t know about when it comes to what’s in those plans. How, for example, are they dealing with things like long-term academic goals, testing opt-outs, and indicators of school quality beyond test scores?

We’re here to help. Check out our updated and improved tracker page for ESSA plans. For each state with an approved ESSA plan, we’ll give you key details about what’s in its implementation strategy for the federal education law. And here’s a map tracking which state plans have been approved—make sure you check in on the tracker page to see when it’s updated:

Although ESSA technically kicked in for the 2017-18 school year, the upcoming 2018-19 school year is when the gears will really begin grinding at the state level. That’s the year when schools will be identified for improvement using ESSA-era data, for example. For more details, check out our recently published “ESSA on the Runway” special report.
