Many charter schools have boasted of putting successful business practices to work in education. Now, an Indiana organization is attempting to support up-and-coming charter schools through an “incubator” project—a concept that would also seem to have been born of the business world.
The Mind Trust has given a pair of awards to school organizations as part of its inaugural “Charter School Incubator” award, designed to help young, promising charter school models grow, by giving them initial financial support. The first two winners are Phalen Leadership Academies, which works in the area of blended learning, and Christel House International, which focuses on serving disadvantaged students, and on dropout recovery. They’re each receiving $1 million.
