As the charter sector grows, more parents and teachers have the option to choose between a charter school and a traditional district school.
For last night’s Education Week Twitter chat, we talked to parents, teachers and administrators (as well as other interested tweeters) about their motivations for choosing—or not choosing—a charter.
Flexibility in curriculum, hours, and services offered was the main reason people gave for picking a charter school. Those wary of charters expressed concerns over accountability standards, for-profit charter management organizations, and whether charters “weed out” weaker students.
And we talked about so much more: unions in charter schools, whether charters help or hurt the greater education system, and how to go about picking a good charter.
