As private Roman Catholic education has seen a marked decline nationally, schools offering Chinese immersion programs have been on the rise. Those topics and more are covered in this week’s edition of the school choice news roundup.

Another plot on the graph: The Archdiocese of Chicago announced it will close or merge several schools, following a national trend. But some research suggests that shuttering a Roman Catholic school can have a significantly negative effect on the surrounding neighborhood.
