Policymakers and educators are waiting for the big push toward improving career and college readiness to pay off. But progress isn’t yet evident on the major college-entrance exams.

Both the ACT and SAT posted flat to declining scores this fall. (See stories here on the ACT and SAT.) The good news is that more students than ever are taking the exams, which the testing organizations say explain, in part, the lack of improvement. But significant gaps still exist between students from different racial and ethnic backgrounds.

States and districts are ramping up efforts to improve college readiness, and many are pinning hopes on the Common Core State Standards.

What will it take for schools to see dramatic improvements in SAT and ACT scores?

Join representatives from both testing organizations for a free, live chat today to discuss the latest scores from the class of 2012 and recommendations for moving the dial.

Steve Kappler, assistant vice president for educational services for ACT, and Stacy Caldwell, vice president, College Board, will be my guests. I’ll be moderating the event at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. We welcome your questions and perspective.
