A resolution advanced by common-standards opponents in Utah has cleared the state Senate today, and it has picked up intensity as it moved along.
According to the Deseret News, the full Senate approved SCR13, which asks the state board—on behalf of the legislature and the governor—to reconsider the standards it approved in June 2010.
Last time we updated you on this resolution, it had been modified to require only that the school board “continually monitor” the implementation of the standards. In its original form, the bill included the admonition to the state board to reconsider. A subsequent revision of the bill includes the earlier language again.
The resolution also requires the state board to conduct and publicly post an evaluation that compares the “cost, control and quality” of Utah’s own standards and tests with the common standards and the tests being designed to reflect them.
