New CEO at McGraw-Hill Education Brings Tech Background

McGraw-Hill has just named a new leader of its education division, which is spinning off as a separate company later this year, my colleague Jason Tomassini reports over at the Marketplace K-12 blog.

Lloyd G. Waterhouse will be the president and CEO of McGraw-Hill Education starting June 14. The organization is transitioning to become a digital learning and education services company independent from the McGraw-Hill Cos. It will house its work on testing, educational software, and the publishing business for K-12 and higher education, Jason explains.

Waterhouse's career includes a strong grounding in technology, including in the education sector, and he served a brief stint as CEO of Harcourt Education before the company was sold to Houghton Mifflin. He worked at IBM for about a quarter-century.

In a press release, Waterhouse made clear that the company's future is in technology.

"My lifetime commitment to learning and to technology convinces me that it's time to accelerate the transformation to digital education so that students, teachers, and administrators can reach their real potential and improve learning for all students everywhere in the world," he said.
