The American Association of Chemistry Teachers, which is billing itself as the “first national chemistry association for K-12 teachers,” is officially up and running as of this month.
The group, founded by the American Chemical Society, will host webinars, conferences, and other professional development opportunities, and will offer lesson plans, activities, and videos on its website (which, I have to say, is quite clean and well laid out). For a $50 membership fee, educators also get print and online journal subscriptions, as well as access to additional members-only resources.
Adam M. Boyd, who worked in the ACS education division for eight years, will serve as the program director. The group is still building its governing board.
AACT, though the first U.S. teacher association devoted to chemistry, joins several other nationwide professional groups for science teachers, including the National Science Teachers Association, the American Association of Physics Teachers, and the National Association of Biology Teachers.
