Yesterday, as you may have seen, was the 5th annual White House Science Fair, during which the president met and mingled with young scientists.
Among the cutest interactions—OK, inarguably the cutest—took place between the president and a troop of Girl Scouts who had built an automatic page-turner, for readers with arthritis, using Lego robotics. The kindergarten and 1st grade “Supergirls,” who at times appeared more eager to tinker with their invention than discuss it with the president, were all wearing capes.
When the president asked how the girls figured out how to build the machine, they told him they “had a brainstorming session.” When he questioned whether they could slow down the page-turning speed, they informed him it was “a prototype.”
“Have you ever had a brainstorming session yourself?” one of the girls asked Obama.
“I have had a couple brainstorming sessions, but I didn’t come up with anything this good,” he replied.
“What did you come up with?” another student asked.
“I came up with things like, you know, health care,” he said. “It turned out OK but it started off with some prototypes.”
