It’s interesting to see more and more business leaders going public with their support for investment in early-childhood care and education. North Carolina business leaders make the case for early learning here:

If you watch the four-minute video, you’ll see University of Chicago economist James Heckman cited, and you’ll hear the stats on how early learning benefits the children who will be the state’s future employees. You’ll also see executives talking about the immediate costs to business when families can’t find good, affordable child-care.

“Your readers may be interested to know that we modeled this after the fantastic New York Winning, Beginning video,” emailed Vivian Muzyk, a spokesperson for the North Carolina Partnership for Children, Inc.

The New York video (six minutes) stresses even more strongly the costs to business when families can’t get child-care. It features Tom Blumer, a retired senior vice president from Corning, who started a child-care center when one of his best employees became a mother and quit because she couldn’t balance work and family responsibilities.
