At the MIT Scheller Teacher Education Program (STEP) lab, we design and research technology to help create powerful learning experiences. We aim to bring playfulness and engagement to the forefront of the teaching and learning process. Recognizing that supporting the professional learning of educators is essential, we are happy to announce the reboot of 11.133x: Implementation & Evaluation of Educational Technology, which launches July 14, 2016. This course is part of the EdTechX: Educational Technology XSeries Program, a series of four MOOCs where students explore educational technology from different angles and consider game design.

How do educators and others decide what kind and type of educational technology to use in the classroom? Which stakeholders influence that decision? What factors determine the success or failure of educational technology initiatives? How do we determine if these implementations are successful? Schools are recognizing the potential for technology to transform teaching and learning. However, bringing technology into the classroom in a productive way is easier said than done.

11.133x provides a practical overview for selecting, integrating, implementing, and evaluating educational technology initiatives in formal educational settings, primarily in the US. The audience for this course includes current and future teachers, entrepreneurs, developers, practitioners, and leaders in educational technology. Over seven weeks, participants will develop an awareness and understanding of the “ecosystem” surrounding the implementation of educational technology in a formal educational setting.

Through video interviews, activities, assignments, readings, live events, and peer interactions, students will gain insight into the process of implementing educational technology and evaluating initiatives for efficacy. Join us for a course that is highly recommended by past students. 11.133x begins on July 14, 2016: enroll here and considering asking your colleagues to join you! Hope to see you in 11.133x: Implementation & Evaluation of Educational Technology, one course in the EdTechX XSeries.
