L.A. Board to Decide High School's 'Secession' Request
An interesting decision is expected to be made today in Los Angeles, where the school board must vote on whether to let Birmingham High School cut loose from the district and become a charter school. According to this story in The Los Angeles Times, the question has split the campus in some ugly ways. And as U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan pushes charters as a key way to improve high schools, what happens or doesn't happen with Birmingham could prove pretty intriguing.
UPDATE: The board allowed the conversion to charter.
