There's been a bit of buzz going around recently about a new paper by Stanford economics professor Caroline Hoxby. It argues that while a handful of the choosiest colleges have gotten choosier in the last 50 years, most colleges have actually gotten easier to get into. The point here, according to Mike Kirst over at the College Puzzle blog, is that "all the hype on admissions selectivity applies to a handful of colleges—about 5 to 10 % of the total postsecondary students."
