The National Board for Education Sciences may soon have a new member. A nomination for Susanna Loeb to join the board has been sent to the Senate, reports the White House’s press office.

Loeb, a professor of education at Stanford University, specializes in the economics of education and the intricate balance of policy across governmental levels. Her research has focused on teacher policy issues, including teacher quality, as well as school leadership.

In addition to teaching and research, Loeb has also been a leader in the field. She is currently serving as a senior fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Research, a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a member of the policy council of the Association for Policy Analysis and Management, and a co-editor of the journal Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis.

If confirmed by the Senate, Loeb will join 14 other members of the Board, comprised of researchers, school administrators, and business executives. Its duties largely include shaping the priorities and activities of the Institute of Education, which is the main research arm for the U.S. Department of Education.
