In the midst of an ongoing Congressional fight over the value of social sciences research, the Federation of Associations in Behavioral and Brain Sciences is about to launch a new journal intended to make such cognitive research more concrete for those in the field.

The federation is launching Policy Insights From the Behavioral and Brain Sciences, an annual journal in which each research study will be accompanied by an “executive summary suitable for use by public policy decision makers and interested lay people.” The journal will also play host to a blog for the online version of each article to spur discussion. The editor, Princeton University psychologist Susan Fiske, hopes to provide an outlet not only for researchers to reach policymakers, but for legislators and others to provide questions and feedback to scientists.

It’s a useful idea for a research journal, though it remains to be seen how the blogs and executive summaries will be used with a paid-subscription-based journal.
