TESOL International Association, the organization for teachers who specialize in working with English-learners, has begun a search for its next executive director.
Rosa Aronson will step down in spring 2017, leaving the job after seven years at the helm.
In a letter announcing her plans, Aronson cited the organization’s growth during that time, including its expanded global reach, improved policy and advocacy efforts, and the rise in research and study opportunities for members.
“And, together, we have undertaken the difficult journey of looking inward and recognizing that change is also needed in our own structures. As we pursue this work of changing ourselves, I have come to realize that new beginnings are needed within the organization management as well. New times call for new leaders,” Aronson wrote in a letter to TESOL members.
The Alexandria, Va.-based organization has 12,100 members and 115 affiliate organizations around the globe.
TESOL’s board has hired executive search firm Vetted Solutions to manage the search for Aronson’s successor. Here’s a look at the position profile.
