TESOL to Host International Summit on the Future of English Learning

TESOL International Association, the organization for teachers who specialize in working with English-learners, will host an international summit to explore the future of the profession.

Two hundred academics and industry professionals from around the globe will gather in February in Athens, Greece, to develop a guidelines for countries and institutions looking to reexamine their language education policies.

The organizers also want to explore what role English should play in a multilingual world and how research should guide policy development and practice for teachers of English.

Twelve speakers from six continents will frame the discussion around four themes: futurology, English in multilingualism, reimagining English competence, and the profession as change agent.

"This understanding can best be developed through a deep-dive conversation with people who have their finger on the pulse of education around the world," said TESOL President Dudley Reynolds, a professor in the department of English at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.
