Confronting Controversy
This year’s social studies teachers are facing class discussions that may take their students into controversial territory. From debate over the war in Iraq, national security, and personal freedoms, social studies teachers have to be more vigilant than ever to structure these discussions in a way that helps foster debate, not yelling, according to an article in the September issue of NEA Today.
