As first reported this past Friday by CBSNews.com, a Texas high school lacrosse player was forced by his coaches to apologize to an entire plane full of passengers for cutting in line during the plane’s boarding process.
Before taking off, flight attendants turned the public-address system over to Mac Breedlove, the player in question.
Breedlove read a hand-written apology note, saying, “I hope you will all find it in your hearts to forgive me, for I am just a young man that thinks I am smarter than I am.”
Breedlove finished his apology by saying, “Enjoy your flight, and remember, fly Southwest, because they let my coach do this for me.”
His coaches told CBSNews that he’s a “great kid,” despite the line-cutting incident.
In an interview with ABC, Breedlove said, “My coaches taught me a valuable lesson in life in a very creative way: Just be patient.”
This isn’t to say all sports coaches need to become bastions of morality for their student-athletes. They’re paid to coach, ultimately, not to differentiate between right and wrong.
Who’s to say those two things need to be mutually exclusive, though?
