Harlem Globetrotters Select Little League Star Mo’ne Davis in Annual Draft

It appears as though Little League star Mo’ne Davis has a professional basketball career in her future, if she so desires.

During their ninth annual draft last week, the Harlem Globetrotters used one of their “picks” to select Davis, who turned 14 years old the following day. In a statement on the team’s website, the Globetrotters declared their intention to exercise “a ‘Future Discovery Clause’ to obtain the rights to Davis when she graduates from college.”

In speaking with TMZ Sports, Globetrotters senior vice president of communications Brett Meister said the team “talked to her [Monday]” and “she was thrilled to be drafted.” According to TMZ, by virtue of being selected in Tuesday’s draft, Davis will now have “an open invite to play with the team whenever [she] wants.”

The Globetrotters already have firsthand knowledge of what Davis can do on a basketball court. Back in March, she suited up for the Globetrotters’ rivals, the Washington Generals, during a game in her hometown Philadelphia. She wound up switching over to the Globetrotters’ side during the game, though, even knocking down a three-pointer from NBA range:

According to Layla A. Jones of Philly.com, Davis is just the third female the Globetrotters have drafted over the past nine years. A team representative told Jones that 13 women have suited up for the team at some point, beginning with Lynette Woodard in 1985.
