President Obama urged students to push themselves academically—and heaped praise on the nation’s teachers—in his “back to school” speech on Wednesday.

Obama delivered the speech at Benjamin Banneker Academic High School, in Washington, D.C. Back in 2009, the president was criticized when conservatives said he was trying to use his speech to promote his political agenda. But this year’s message was decidedly apolitical.
