Since the start of the year, both my coworker Liana Heitin and I have covered the testing opt-out movement’s roots, where it’s been most effective, and where it might be headed. Now the great Commentary team at Education Week has put together a comprehensive package on perhaps the most controversial political movement in education right now.
In addition to essays about what testing means for equity, how opt-outs can potentially impact school accountability, and parents’ opt-out experience back in the 1990s, Education Week Commentary has put together a great Storify that includes videos, tweets, and other reactions to where opt-out comes from and where it should (and shouldn’t) go from here.
You’ll see work from researchers, a discussion of the issue by officials including U.S. Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education Deborah Delisle, and the views of both opt-out supporters and opponents.
