Temple University Professor Steven Zelnick lays out the theory that a coarsened culture has stripped young men of inspiration.

Who could argue that popular culture has not become coarsened? And that has to hurt boys. My focus, however, remains on academics. In my book I profile schools that succeed with young boys growing up in poverty -- and a coarsened culture.
