Male Studies Conference

Coming up April 6 at the New York Academy of Medicine.

The featured speakers:

* Gordon E. Finley, PhD, Professor of Psychology at Florida International University. His presentation will describe how emerging current realities and anticipated future trends will affect the role of fathers in families and children's lives. * Michael Gilbert, author of "The Disposable Male" and a senior fellow at the Annenberg Center for the Digital Future at the University of Southern California. He will speak on the current muddled state of gender affairs. * Dr. Paul Nathanson, PhD senior researcher, and Dr. Katherine Young, PhD, professor, both of the McGill University Faculty of Religious Studies. They have recently completed four-volume study of misandry, the hatred of men and boys. Their presentation will deal with the dilemma of males' lowered self-image. * Matthew Willcox and Matthew Palmer, both of DraftFCB, a global advertising firm. They will speak on the role of marketing and advertising on the self image and perception of males. Mr. Willcox is a director of strategic planning at the agency and Mr. Palmer is a vice-president and planning director. Mr. Willcox was instrumental in helping Levi Strauss and Co. brand Dockers develop its "Wear the Pants" campaign. Mr. Palmer is the lead strategist on the Miller Lite brand and a member of the team responsible for producing its "Man Up" campaign.
