NAACP Sees Education as Answer -- but Misses the Irony

Education is the key to reversing the losses among black males, according to NAACP leaders meeting in Los Angeles.

"We are losing a generation of our children," said Sandre Swanson, who heads the California Assembly's Select Committee on the State of Boys and Men of Color, at a panel discussion. "These young men need help and to know we care."

The writer of the AP story, however, declined to point out that the NAACP recently joined the United Federation of Teachers in an attempt to block a plan by New York City officials to offer students more seats in higher performing charter schools.

At its heart, that issue was about jobs vs. a quality education, and the NAACP chose to side with the adults rather than the kids.
