On average, students in schools whose principals had been trained by the urban leadership program improved their state test scores by nearly a percentile point in reading and 1.3 percentile points in math.

On Tuesday, Bill Haslam, Governor to Tennessee announced a new state program. Called the Tennessee Promise, it will guarantee two years of a community college or two years at a college of applied technology to all graduating high school seniors.

So not only do we have an obligation to prepare all students for STEM fields, it seems that particularly for young women, we need to prepare them to be scientists, technologists, engineers, mathematicians AND we need to prepare them to be advocates who can champion their cause and fight for equal opportunities in these fields.
