21st Century Digital Learning Environments

We need to share innovative and generative educational digital technology methodologies.

Ed Week does wonderful work, and I'm really looking forward to this new resource for information on a field of such large and growing importance. Keep it up!

Presently working on a HS online science tutorial. The problems have focused basically on two major issues that detract from a top level project in my opinion.

The authors are print people who attempt to take print figures/concepts and want to duplicate them for an online multimedia tutorial. Their seniority within their company prevents much change of approach.

The concepts are presented in very old pedagogy and are often not relevant to present scientific topics of interest -- like the old stand-by of Easter Island issues, rather than the use of some very obvious present day on-going local places with similar severe ecology issues.

Then the lack of a threads woven throughout the material to tie one concept to the next. The concepts often jump all over the place.

Basically, it is old pedagogy being presented in a textbook manner online.

Is there any way to improve the way of presenting the concepts in a more innovative and interesting way short of replacing the stuck in their ways authors?

The authors claim that the teachers want the old tried and true examples (Easter Island), as they are familiar with it and will not embrace any all new presently relevant science concepts and topics.

The authors say the teachers will simply turn away from the online technology offered and return to their textbooks unless we offer the usual familiar old-standby topics as in the textbooks.

Any solutions or suggestions?

Has it been considered to use technology in the oush for additional (or initial) civics education? The government uses tools to communicate and collaborate with citizens and stakeholders - would the schools be interested in seeing the technology in action and adopting it for their own use?

This is great! With all the attention on technology in education, the time is right for such a magazine. Look forward to future edition.

As an instructional technology who have worked variours school districts in various capacities to help teachers integrate educational and instructional technologies into theri classroom practice, I think it is about time that we shed light on this all important subject which is drasticallly changing the way we do things in our educational systems.

It has been very tough if your work in a school district who leader and even teachers do not have the vision for integrating technology into best practices.
