Sign of the Times ...

One of Hobo Teacher's students seems not to understand how it would be earthly possible for a teacher to communicate with an absent student without the help of texting.

I have been teaching at the elementary level for nine years and I have never communicated with my students or parents by texting. Many of my parents send emails telling me that their child is sick and I respond by email, telephone, or written communication letting the student and parent know what work we have covered and when the makeup work should be done. I cannot imagine spending the time texting when my students would prefer to hear my voice. They can hear the concern and care that I have for them in my tone. If they need some "how to" instructions, I can explain better over the phone rather than through a text.
