Jessica's blog is GREAT! I love the comments from Julia and Julius. It speaks volumes to the impact Jessica is having on her students!
Talking about heritage is so important for our students. My ancestors come from six different countries, including Native America; I am a true American mutt. My students always seem to appreciate the insight that comes along with my heritage when the topic comes up. I recently had a conversation about ancestry with several of my students, two from South American countries and one student from Korea. They really tuned in to the conversation tying Native American ancestry to Hispanic and Asian ancestry/cultures. It was a great connection for all of us.

Hello Jessica,
I enjoyed reading your article.
I Will be starting my first year of teaching in an alternative education route in the fall of 2007.I have to pass the G.A.C.E. exam before I can start my student teaching I also have to become certified.I think that the experience that teachers gain when they take the alternative route is very valueble.I agree with everything that you said about the new teachers that start off being uncertified.
