Jessica Shyu, now in her second year with Teach For America, is a special education teacher at an elementary and middle school on the Navajo Nation in New Mexico. Once a journalism student from the Washington, D.C., area , she has since traded the Beltway for the sprawling mesas of the Southwest. SPRING BREAK!!!

Dear Readers,
I am a slacker. I haven't been teaching. I haven't been lesson planning. I haven't even been in New Mexico. And as evidenced by the date of this entry, I haven't been blogging. It's spring break and I'm back East visiting family. I will update the blog this weekend.

EDIT: I am finally writing my lesson plans for the next week right now and they're just pouring out of me. Spring break (and not doing anything) has reenergized and inspired me. It is comforting to be able to justify sloth.

Jessica, I've gone for two weeks without blogging because I was overseas. Now that I'm back, I'm ready to enter the blogosphere again. Sometimes all it takes is a bit of time away to help re-energize us for the quotidian tasks of teaching and thinking. Welcome back!
