Recently, I interviewed Mary Cooke, the HR director of Delaware’s Department of Education, about the impact of being selected one of the two Race to the Top first-round winners. Delaware’s Dept. of Ed. is in the (very) early planning stages of RTT, but Cooke did mention that the state is focusing on finding and training great teachers to become leaders in their schools, with the aim of the state becoming the “premiere education system in the country.”

For teachers who are suffering from burnout and looking for a career change, the states that win RTT will have numerous positions to fill. (In Delaware, they’re looking to staff a 10-person Project Management Office to help lead their turnaround efforts.)
