The National Association of Headteachers in the United Kingdom says it is receiving an increasing number of calls from its members saying they are being defamed by parents on social networking sites. The union is putting out new guidance for educators who believe they have been cyberbulled, instructing them in part on how to report potentially abusive content to the website in question.
In response to the story, according to the BBC, a spokesperson for Facebook said that parents’ online dicussions about teachers are usually “a reflection of those happening offline.” At least on sites like Facebook (as opposed to offline exchanges), he noted, teachers can single out and flag such conversations.
