TNTP Launches $25,000 Teacher Competition
Full-time public school teachers working in Title I schools can now apply for a $25,000 cash award sponsored by TNTP, a nonprofit organization (formerly known as The New Teacher Project) that recruits and trains teachers. (And if you've done much shopping around for teaching prizes to apply for, you know that's a hefty sum.)
According to the TNTP announcement, the organization is looking to award The Fischman Prize for Superlative Classroom Practice to up to five educators with "an extraordinary ability to lead students from all backgrounds to academic excellence," "a keen understanding of effective instructional practice," and "a deep commitment to advancing the teaching profession."
The winners will participate in a six-week summer residency, in which they spend a few days in New York City and then collaborate virtually on a short paper about effective instruction for publication. Online applications must be in by Feb. 3, 2012. Add that to your likely ever-growing list of things to do over the holiday break...
