Teacher Under Fire for Writing Erotica

An Ohio teacher is feeling the wrath of reproving parents and administrators after penning an erotic novel in which the main character has affairs with former students, according to the Huffington Post.

Carol Ann Eastman published Schooled under a pseudonym in October. After her identify was revealed, she was put on three weeks administrative leave for violating district policy by using a school computer for personal social networking.

Perhaps the most amusing part of this drama so far (well, I’ve yet to read the book itself) is the bevy of reader comments in support of the author-teacher. Some examples:

Unless she made her book required reading for her class ... I don't understand why this is an issue." "She was a fantastic teacher when I had her and I'm sure nothing has changed. It's a book. She wrote it under a pen name for a reason. Get over it." "Have you ever considered that maybe teachers shouldn't NEED a second job?" "How about this: [A]ll women who want to be teachers must be virgins, and take a vow of perpetual chastity and celibacy." "Since when are teacher[s] required to be saints? With the low wages they are paid, your [sic] lucky to even have sober ones, much less saints." "I'm outraged. I wouldn't want a published author teaching my children English!"

According to the HuffPost article, “the novel has garnered largely positive reviews.”
