Nothing To See Here, Move Along

Ah, the end of the school year. After all the testing bubbles are filled in, it's time for students to relax and enjoy class trips and special milestone events. At least, that's the theory. In practice, students in Atlanta and Reno got less than what they bargained for recently. The Reno students made a four-hour bus trip to Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo, Calif., but found the park closed when they arrived. "It was pretty much a fiasco," said a district school spokesman. Apparently no one, including the school district and the tour company that arranged the trip, managed to check the amusement park schedule. The kids got good news on Friday, though, when the park CEO vowed to provide a special behind-the-scenes tour when the students return in May. There won't be a do-over in Atlanta, however, where some teenagers were shut out of their senior prom last weekend. A larger-than-expected crowd and a mix-up by the security staff of the Georgia Aquarium caused about a dozen ticket-bearing high-schoolers to be turned away at the prom door. While the slighted students' money was returned, and they were offered a special private dinner at the aquarium, it didn't lessen the sting of rejection. "I have no memories of my senior prom because they wouldn't let me in," said senior Jamie Baker.
