Boosting Math and Science
In his State of the Union Address on Jan. 31, President Bush called for training 70,000 additional teachers to lead Advance Placement courses in math and science and bringing 30,000 math and science professionals into high schools as adjunct teachers. Proposing $380 million to back these new education efforts, Mr. Bush said that studentsparticularly low-income childrenmust be encouraged to take more math and science courses and that the courses must be "rigorous enough to compete with other nations."
What's your view? How best can American competitiveness in math and science be improved? Do you agree with President Bush's proposed plan for schools?
