Two stories about cyber schools have been floating around the wires:
• At least one legislator and the superintendent of schools in South Carolina are working on tackling a Pentagon policy that favors recruiting students in brick-and-mortar schools over those in virtual ed. State Rep. Joe Wilson, a republican, says he will work on passing legislation to change this policy when he returns to Washington.
• One Pennsylvanian superintendent is hitting the streets to convince students in his cash-strapped school district to drop out of cyber school and re-enroll in their local brick-and-mortar district. Roughly 50 students in the district currently receive their education virtually, which adds up to about $580,000 of lost funding for the Tulpehocken School District, said Edward Albert, the district’s superintendent. Albert has sent letters to the parents of the students in cyber schools and says next he will go door-to-door to lure students back to the district, according to the story.
