All schools in the Minneapolis school district are on lockdown for a second day as a precautionary measure after a threat was received Wednesday that someone would shoot at an unspecified school in the city and then shoot himself.

The shooter did not specify which of the city’s 60 schools would be the target, which is why the district placed all schools on “code yellow” lockdown.

School continued as normally as possible for the district’s more than 32,000 students while access to the school buildings from the outside was restricted.
“We have no specific reason to believe that any one particular building has been linked to this reported threat,” the district wrote on its Web site.

The district has worked to keep parents informed, using automated calls to the emergency contacts for students, its Twitter feed, Web site, and of course, reports in local media.

Police and FBI officials believe the threat was posted on social networking sites by an Australian teenager with no connection to the Twin Cities, the Minneapolis Star Tribune newspaper reports. Police believe the teenager is also responsible for a threat against Catholic school in nearby St. Paul.
