This morning is the official launch of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools’ annual conference.

Held this year in Chicago, the conference will kick off this morning with a speech from Bill Gates, who will help set the tone for the charter conference’s focus on innovation.

Gates, through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has become the largest private contributor to education in the nation. The foundation’s priorities, including most notably teacher effectiveness, are also those in vogue with the Obama administration and many education reformers.

Check back here this afternoon to hear what Gates had to say about charters and innovation, as well as for details from an exclusive interview I will conduct with Gates after his speech.
