Ignite the Light

This came across my Facebook news feed today and I just have to share it here. Broadcasting students at Magnolia High School near Houston, Texas put together this amazing video to Katy Perry’s song “Firework.” The song itself is a very positive and uplifting song -- and I love how these students present such a powerful message to other students in this video. I think this is also very timely -- this video could fit right in with some other recent “it gets better” messages.

I think it is also important to recognize the administrators and teachers who allowed this production to take place. As you watch the video it is very apparent that this could not have been done without the approval -- and participation -- of the administration and faculty. Thank you to all of the adults who supported this and felt that it was worthwhile. I know some administrators who would do the same, but I have also known some administrators who would have said “no” simply because this would interrupt precious “instructional time.” Some things are more important than test scores...

If you are not familiar with the song, you can read the full lyrics here.
