'Tiger Mother' After School
One thing that struck me about what I've read about the book—and, no, I haven't actually read the book—is Chua's ironclad control of her children's after-school time. No play dates, no sleepovers, and lots and lots of music practice. This is certainly a very different approach to "beyond school" from the more engaging, enriching activities on which this blog generally focuses.
Does the after-school community have a view of the "Tiger Mother" philosophy? What after-school programs meet Chua's exacting standards and play into the intense, multi-hour-long focus on a particular subject or skill? Will Chua's book prompt more such programs? I'd love to hear your reactions.
