This book offers practical advice on deciphering the causes and patterns of difficult student behaviors, and strategies on how to get such students back on track academically.

How to Bullyproof Your Classroom, by Caltha Crowe (Northeast Foundation for Children Inc., 2012). This book offers K-5 teachers a proactive approach to preventing bullying in their classrooms by focusing on creating a positive classroom environment and responding to inappropriate behavior before it escalates into bullying.

Improving Learning Environments: School Discipline and Student Achievement in Comparative Perspective, edited by Richard Arum and Melissa Velez (Stanford University Press, 2012). This volume contains nine essays, each focused on school discipline in a different country. Together, the essays explore institutional differences in school discipline, school environments, and student achievement in an effort to better understand social inequality.

School Discipline, Classroom Management, and Student Self-Management: A PBS Implementation Guide, by Howard M. Knoff, foreword by Raymond J. McNulty (Corwin, 2012). This volume, which is based on Project ACHIEVE, offers advice on how to implement positive behavior support systems, integrating aspects of instruction and academics with discipline and behavior management.

The SAPR-PBIS™ Manual: A Team-Based Approach to Implementing Effective Schoolwide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, by Bridget Walker and Douglas Cheney, foreword by Robert H. Horner (Paul H. Brookes Publishing Co., 2012). This manual offers instructions on how schools can conduct positive behavior interventions and supports assessments without using outside evaluators.

School Climate 2.0: Preventing Cyberbullying and Sexting One Classroom at a Time, by Sameer Hinduja and Justin W. Patchin (Corwin, 2012). In this volume, the authors focus on the distracting and hurtful cyber behaviors of teens that occur on- and off-campus and how educators can develop a positive school climate to counteract such behavior.

Teacher’s Encyclopedia of Behavior Management, 2nd Edition: 100+ Problems/ 500+ Plans, by Randy Sprick (Pacific Northwest Publishing, 2012). This updated second edition includes intervention plans for teachers dealing with perennial problems among students such as arguing and cliquish behaviors to more recent discipline issues such as cyberbullying and the misuse of electronics.
