First lady Michelle Obama, whose Let’s Move! program aims to end the childhood obesity epidemic within a generation, has a new move: jumping jacks.
Mrs. Obama wants to break into the Guinness Book of World Records for having the greatest number of people doing jumping jacks in a single 24-hour period. (I haven’t looked at a copy of Guinness in a while. I’m clearly overdue.)
The 24 hours of exercises, also known as side straddle hops, will start Oct. 11 at 3 p.m., when Mrs. Obama and children from the Washington area will do jumping jacks for a solid minute on the White House lawn. To break the record, Mrs. Obama’s partner for the record-breaking attempt, National Geographic Kids, said more than 20,000 people will need to get on their feet and do jumping jacks for at least one minute before 3 p.m. Oct. 12.
