U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has given the stamp of approval to two more plans to implement the Every Student Succeeds Act—Nebraska’s and North Carolina’s.

For those keeping score: This means DeVos has approved plans for 46 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Still waiting: California, Florida, Oklahoma, and Utah.

Nebraska plans to use mostly positive labels in its school rating system. Schools can either be “excellent,” “great,” “good,” or “needs improvement.” It will also use a dashboard system to gauge schools’ performance on a mix of factors. The state will consider science achievement and chronic absenteeism in rating schools. It plans to put aside a portion of its federal Title II funding to improve school leadership.

North Carolina will consider biology tests, ACT scores, and the ACT WorkKeys exam in evaluating its schools. It will using an A through F system to rate its schools.
